Faces | Simon
In SYdney for Anzac Day recently, I went down to the city for the march. The event was canceled last year because of the pandemic and, while numbers looked down across the board this year, it was great to be back.At the start of the march, in the Air Force section, I saw a banner being carried by two delightfully dapper-looking gents. Here's one of them. This is Simon. He was carrying the banner for 458 Squadron, on which his grandfather was a wireless mechanic. We had a chat for a few moments and I couldn't resist a photo. Up until a few years ago, I regularly carried one side of the 463-467 Squadron banner on Anzac Day. The other side was carried by a tall, slim, bearded bloke, about my age - I'm a tall, slim, bearded bloke myself, and we were often mistaken for brothers. After I spoke with Simon, I went across to his banner-carrying comrade. Red-bearded, bowler hat, bow tie.... a brother? FInd out in the next photo!
